Pano Thumbnail Buffalo Soldier Monument
The Buffalo Soldiers have the distinction of being the first all African-American regiments in the US regular Army. "Buffalo Soldier" originally referred to the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment. The nickname was given by the Native American warriors they fought. The regiment was formed on September 21,
1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Eventually several other regiments were referred to by the moniker.

The monument recognizes the service of African American soldiers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
