Bluestem Books, one of Nebraska's oldest used, rare & out of print bookstores, was founded in 1975 by owners Scott & Pat Wendt. In 1984 the shop moved into its current location in Lincoln's Historic Haymarket.A carefully selected stock of approximately 40,000 volumes along with their somewhat counter-intuitive policy of buying high and selling low, have earned them a solid reputation among book collectors and other dealers. From the log of John Dunning's 2004 book tour: WHAT a vast and varied land this is. We roll across farmlands of Iowa and into windy Nebraska, uncertain where we might stay tonight. Omaha is a natural stopping point, but we arrive with plenty of daylight left and we move on to Lincoln. I know of a fine bookstore there, Bluestem Books: I had Janeway stop at Bluestem in THE BOOKMAN'S WAKE, and we hope they are open late on a Saturday afternoon. Years have passed since I came this way myself, but it is just as I described it then, an oasis of good books, unaffected by today's crazy internet pricing. We stop for an hour and find the place alive with customers late on a Saturday. I could spend half a day there, but we schmooze, buy half a dozen books, and move on.
