Pano Thumbnail The Colosseum
The Colosseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheater, was constructed by the Emperors Vespasian and his son Titus from AD 70-80. Gladiator bouts, mock sea battles, exotic beast hunts, and executions were put on display for the entertainment of populous.

This most famous of Roman Edifice was funded by the booty from a single rebellion, the 'First Jewish War'. That the resulting spoils of this relatively minor conflict could fund one the most recognizable structures in the world is a testament to the vast power of the polity that created it.
