Pano Thumbnail Andrew Jackson Higgins Memorial
The Higgins Memorial Project was conceived, designed, and completed through the efforts of Jerry Meyer and his students at Columbus High School of Columbus, Nebraska.

This unique memorial has three purposes:

*To honor Andrew Jackson Higgins
*To honor the workers of Higgins Industries and all the men and women who designed and manufactured equipment for World War II.
*To honor the soldiers and sailors who rode the Higgins boats in to battle.

The centerpiece of the Higgins Memorial Project is a life-sized replica of a Higgins boat made of steel and set in sand as if beached. The ramp is down to allow visitors to walk inside. Sand samples collected from numerous invasion beaches are mixed with the sand surrounding the boat.

A memorial plaque to Mr. Higgins and a historical marker about him and his workers accent the project.
