The National World War II Memorial commemorates the service and sacrifice of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines that served in the United States Military during the second World War. The memorial is situated west of the National mall between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
The far western wall contains 4,048 gold stars that represent the 404,800 Americans who lost their lives during the war.
